Learey Technical College (LTC) first opened its doors in June, 1993.  LTC offers career and workforce education in the areas of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Fire Fighter programs.  We offer these programs at Instructional Service Centers throughout Hillsborough County.

Classes are offered during the day, evening and weekend hours.  The Learey website (www.Learey.edu) lists schedules and locations.  Learey Technical College’s main office is in the ACSC/Learey building, located at 5410 N. 20th Street in Tampa, 33610.  Main office hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday (except holidays) year round.  Learey Technical College classes follow the Hillsborough County Public School calendar.

Instructors receive their certification from the State of Florida Department of Education or the Hillsborough County Public School sytem.  To receive temporary certification, technical instructors are required to have a minimum of six years of full-time experience in their field. To receive a professional certificate, the instructor not holding a degree in Education, must agree to participate in a Teacher Induction Program (TIP), complete the Alternative Certification Program (ACP) and demonstrate three years of successful teaching.

Effective teachers and active advisory committees are essential ingredients for successful programs.  The Learey Technical College programs maintain an advisory committee with many industry and community members participating.  This participation has fostered many partnerships, cooperative agreements and provided a valuable resource for our graduates seeking employment.
